Co-op Values

Resilient Energy Forest of Dean is a registered community benefit society under the Co-operative & Community Benefits Society Act 2014 with the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA).  Registered number 7082.

Its constitution is in the form of Rules approved by and registered with the FCA. The Rules of Resilient Energy Forest of Dean are available to download here.

Resilient Energy Forest of Dean is owned and controlled by its members on a fair and equitable basis. The voting rights are distributed equally amongst the members, regardless of the number of shares held.

Key characteristics of Resilient Energy Forest of Dean, as a society, are:

  • A single class of shares with a nominal value of £1.
  • All Members have one vote regardless of how many shares they hold. No Member, except another registered Society, may hold more than 100,000 shares.
  • The Board is elected by the Members each year at the AGM.
  • Only Members are eligible to serve on the Board.

The objects of the Society are to carry on any business for the benefit of the community which involves the development, financing, construction, installation, generation, transmission, operation and/or (if required) sale of a community sustainable energy generation project, for the purpose of:

  • generating electricity/heat from renewable energy resources;
  • generating income for, and/or to be able to provide grants to, one or more Community Organisations, Persons and/or businesses within the community served by the society;
  • developing a revolving fund to facilitate grants for alleviating fuel poverty and/or improving energy security by installing solar photo voltaic panels on residential properties;
  • enabling the local and wider community to invest in the community sustainable energy generation project; and
  • supporting educational and/or other community activities which promote awareness of environmental and related issues.
